Part of JAEA's Thermodynamic Database (JAEA-TDB) for solubility and speciation of radionuclides (JAEA-TDB-RN) for performance assessment of geological disposal of high-level radioactive and TRU wastes has been updated with subsuming the database for geochemical calculations (JAEA-TDB-GC). This report has focused to update JAEA-TDB-RN after selecting change in standard Gibbs free energy of formation (), change in standard enthalpy change of formation (), standard molar entropy () and, heat capacity (), change in standard Gibbs free energy of reaction (), change in standard enthalpy change of reaction () and standard entropy change of reaction () as well as logarithm of equilibrium constant (log) at standard state. The extent of selection of these thermodynamic data enables to evaluate solubility and speciation of radionuclides at temperatures other than 298.15 K. Furthermore, the latest thermodynamic data for iron which have been critically reviewed, selected and compiled by the Nuclear Energy Agency within Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD/NEA) have been accepted. Most of previously selected log have been refined to confirm internal consistency with JAEA-TDB-GC. Text files of the updated JAEA-TDB have been provided for geochemical calculation programs of PHREEQC and Geochemist's Workbench.

The latest available thermodynamic data were critically reviewed and the selected values were included into the JAEA-TDB for performance assessment of geological disposal of high-level radioactive and TRU wastes. This critical review specifically addressed thermodynamic data for (1) a zirconium-hydroxide system through comparison of thermodynamic data selected by the Nuclear Energy Agency within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD/NEA), (2) complexation of metal ions with isosaccharinic acid based on the latest review papers. Furthermore, the author performed (3) tentative selection of thermodynamic data on ternary complexes among alkaline-earth metal, uranyl and carbonate ions, and (4) integration with the latest version of JAEA's thermodynamic database for geochemical calculations. The internal consistency of the selected data was checked by the author. Text files of the updated and integrated thermodynamic database have been prepared for geochemical calculation programs of PHREEQC and Geochemist's Workbench.

Large size freight cargo containers are the most vulnerable items from nuclear security points of view because of their large volume and weight of cargo inside for hiding heavily shielded objects. For strengthening nuclear security, secure detection of NMs in heavily shielded objects, and safe handling (dismantlement) of detected (suspicious) objects, are essential. These require secure detection of NMs, inspection of detailed interior structures of detected objects, rough characterization of NMs (for nuclear bomb or RDD etc.) and confirmation of existence of explosives etc. By using information obtained by these inspections, safe dismantlement of objects is possible. In this paper, we propose a combination of X-ray scanning system with NRF-based NDD system using monochromatic -ray beam for a secure detection and interior inspections. We also we propose active neutron NDA system using a DT source for interior inspection of NM part.

In steady-state tokamak fusion reactors, an efficient external current drive and a large fraction of the bootstrap current are required for non-inductive operation at low circulating power. NBI is a powerful and reliable actuator for current drive and heating. A negative ion-based NBI (N-NBI) with a high beam energy more than 350 keV has been installed in the JT-60U tokamak in order to study the NBI current drive and heating in an ITER relevant regime. This paper presents recent progress of N-NBI experiments and its system in JT-60U towards steady-state operation for ITER and tokamak fusion reactors.

Times Cited Count:1 Percentile:12.44(Chemistry, Physical)The migration of hydrogen in Pd-1at.% Fe-H and Pd-1at.% Ag-H alloys is investigated by electrical resistivity measurement around 50 K. The disordered hydrogen atoms are introduced by electron irradiation with 0.5 MeV electrons below 15 K. The disordered atoms order by migration of hydrogen atoms during the heating-up of the specimens. The recovery curves of electrical resistivity have two sub-stages for electron irradiated specimens and one stage for fast cooled specimens. The migration energy of hydrogen is obtained from the kinetic analysis of the resistivity change due to the ordering, using the cross-cut method for the electron irradiated specimen and fast cooled specimen. The obtained value of the migration energy for the low temperature stage is smaller than that for the high temperature stage. The value for the high temperature stage is similar to the energy for the case of fast cooling. The difference between the hydrogen atoms disordered by irradiation and that by fast cooling is discussed for Pd based alloys.

The models are calculated by FAMS, Full Automatic Modeling System. Enlarged FAMSBASE provides a wide range of query keys, such as name of ORF (open reading frame), ORF keywords, PDB ID, PDB heterogen atoms, and sequence similarity. Heterogen atoms in PDB include cofactors, ligands, and other factors that interact with proteins, and are a good starting point for analyzing interactions between proteins and other molecules. The data may also work as a template for drug design. The present number of ORFs with protein 3D models in FAMSBASE is 183,805, and the database includes an average of three models for each ORF. FAMSBASE is available at http://famsbase.bio.nagoya-u.ac.jp/famsbase/.

Polyvinylsilane (PVS), a liquid organosilicon polymer at room temperature, is expected to be used as a precursor for SiC product with minute and complex shape. In the synthesis of the SiC product, it is necessary to cure the polymer in order to retain the shape during the pyrolysis. We have used a radiation for curing of the PVS. However, there is a problem that the PVS foams during electron beam irradiation at room temperature. In this report, the curing of PVS by -ray irradiation was examined, and effect of irradiation temperature was studied in order to find out conditions that prevent the foaming of PVS. It was found that the PVS is cured without foaming by the -ray irradiation in both cases of the irradiation temperature at liquid nitrogen temperature (77K) and at room temperature. From the results of measurement of gel fraction and TGA, it was found that the PVS is cured more efficiently by the irradiation at room temperature than at 77K.
